Think Positive, Pense Positif, Penso Positivo

A friend told me that I was one of the two people she knew who was passionate about their college major. I took it as a compliment, but I think this comment was also quite revealing. A couple of weeks ago, I declared my major in Romance Languages, French and Italian, with a minor in entrepreneurship. I am passionate about languages ever since I discovered Italian last semester. I chose my major because I was interested in it! I have a thirst for knowledge and I want to progress as fast as possible. For me, the choice was natural. However, I know a lot of people, like my friend, who think of their major as a burden, or an obligation to get a job.

I've been keeping a gratitude journal since June which has really helped me appreciate my luck and my life! Each night, I write one thing (sometimes two, if I have space) that I am thankful for, that made me laugh or smile. Here are a couple of examples: I found an Italian YouTube humor channel and understand the videos, I ate Mediterranean with friends, there was my favorite dessert at the dining hall, I had a great rowing practice, Glamour Paris followed me on Instagram and I Face Timed my brother. It's not difficult to find one positive thing a day. It helps you become conscious of the beautiful things life gives you.

So yes, I like my major! I make an effort to find the beautiful things in life. I am not unrealistic or naive, but simply positive! Life is well worth living when you know how to get the most out of it! On that note, here's a song called "Think Positive" by Jovanotti, an Italian singer.

Alors oui, ma spécialisation me plaît!

  1. Hello,

I am new to your wonderfully tasteful blog. I love it! I am particularly drawn to your mention of college and majors. I am so glad that you found your passion. However, I would not be so quick to describe someone pursuing a practical major as someone burdened by their choice.

    1. Hi Nina,

Thank you for reading! I think of my major as practical as well as my passion. I also believe that all majors are practical because they eventually get you to the job or life you want to achieve.

      What was your major?
